Day 302/365 - Watch the Ball Drop

Ugh. This one really made me angry. I loved the idea and I felt like I was off to a good start, but I think a drink or two brought down my game just a bit.

Dinner tonight was leftover chicken noodle soup, and as fate would have it, I finished a box of crackers. I kind of knew what I wanted to do, but it totally didn't go together like I thought it would, mostly because I clearly cannot work with elmer's glue. I just don't have the patience for it.

Day 301/365 - This Day in History

I suppose I could have been a little more creative and chosen a different day for the prompt, but I went with looking up today. The History Channel website has a great feature to look up notable things that happened any day in history.

Funny challenge added to today's project. One of the illustrious members of the Ohio 5 commented yesterday that I never mentioned I knit. She thought when I was 80, we'd find out I was capable of building a flying machine and I just never thought to mention it. So I had to add something flying today. Thank goodness my son still had his How to Draw Vehicles book. I opened to the airplane page finished this pretty quickly. I don't mind saying, I kind of like this one.

Day 300/365 - Hot to the Touch

This project took me three days. Not because I suck at knitting, or because it takes me a long time, but I am essentially solo-parenting all four kids this week, and there always seemed to be something that needed taken care of.

I was drinking a hot cup of coffee when I read the prompt and thought I might want to make another of the mug rugs that I made back in February. I remembered seeing a pattern for a Christmas tree so I spent some time looking that up and then had to dig some yarn out of a moving box in my basement.

After I got the first one done, though, I thought it might be fun to figure out a way to turn this into a cup cozy. I measured the finished one and measured a mug, and realized that just making a second one and joining them would be the right size.

I sewed one seam then dug through my daughter's bead stash to find ones I could use for buttons on the other side. I was maybe most excited that I found matching ones, and that they're orange, my favorite color.

Most of my #make365 projects have gone into a bin under my desk, but this one is going in my car. I think I'll keep it there and save the cardboard sleeves when I get a coffee on the go.

Day 299/365 - Silver Bells

I don't know why it took me so long to come up with this idea. But I tried several different things before I remembered I wear a lot of silver jewelry.

Once I raided my jewelry box, it went pretty quickly. And my younger daughter was pretty entertained watching me do it.

Day 298/365 - Put it in Reverse

I have a hard enough time being creative in the correct order, let alone trying to reverse it. But, since I involved my kids in making stuff, I think this totally counts for making something more complicated.

Because procrastination is my strong suit, sometimes I find ways to make it completely work to my advantage. After taking my oldest to her cheer practice, and knowing my husband was working at the new house, I thought it might be fun to run to Michael's (it's a craft store chain here in Central Ohio) to see if we would find some kid friendly craft activities to make for Grandma for Christmas. Possible the best part of this story, is that because it's just two days before Christmas, the crafts were 75% off, so we got them for a steal.

We all sat at the table together working on the projects. There were  few moments when they all needed me at the same time, but it was mostly a lovely way to pass a snowy, cold afternoon. Don't tell the other three, but the picture I got was the one my older son did and it's totally my favorite.

Day 297/365 - Mirror Image

Just a quickie today when I walked past my hallway mirror and remembered it was made of glass. I raided my daughter's marker stash and found a dry erase. Then my younger daughter told me I'd "get in trouble with Daddy for drawing on the mirror." I think he'll be alright with it.

Day 295/365 - To the North Pole

Well, today's prompt might have been almost too obvious given my theme of celebrating the holidays.

It seems like the should all be doable, right? It was definitely fun thinking about the things I really want. I purposefully didn't think about this too much as I started. I wanted to just let it flow. But now that it's done, I definitely want all these things.

Day 293/365 - Too Salty

This one was SO much trickier than I thought it would be. I kid you not, just this wonky looking thing I made took 20 minutes. Salt is difficult to work with. This is what I've learned.

Day 291/365 - Outside/Inside

It said to make it look like something outside was inside. Well, because the weather outside has finally gotten cold, enter my first cold of the season.

I really tried to make the couch my permanent residence yesterday. I felt totally miserable, my husband was in the same boat and the older two kids were both a bit under the weather and all we all really wanted to do was stay huddled on the couch together. To be fair, we did spend a good amount of the day on the couch (we made it through 2 and 3 of our Harry Potter movie marathon).

Around 3:00 or so, my desire to eat my favorite two foods (let alone the perfect comfort food) outweighed my desire to stay on the couch under my blanket. So, yeah, homemade chicken noodle soup and chocolate chip cookies will have to count as my creative output for the day. And since we got our first measurable snow, it counts in the theme too.

Day 290/365 - Ignore the Prompt

I took a pass on this prompt, mostly because I don't have a pet. Goodness knows we've got enough mouths to feed and butts to clean up after already around here.

What I did find time for today was starting on the great Christmas card mailing of 2017. There was actually a quiet stretch this afternoon when I could sit down at the table, spread everything out and actually get the first half or so done.

Day 289/365 - Hallmark, Here I Come!

It wasn't much of a role reversal today, because it still required sitting at a computer, but I designed our family Christmas Card. But if you're on my mailing list, try to act surprised when you get it.

Day 288/365 - You Gotta Have FRIENDS

I've never been good a choosing a favorite when it comes to anything in pop culture. Mostly because it changes so much from just a few years apart. But there has been one constant since 1994 that I watched and rewatched, and that's Friends.

For whatever reason, Monica's Christmas tree always stood out to me. I remember thinking how cool the JOY ornaments were. The idea that they were separate letters was a new concept, and I liked that they were always on her tree from year to year

Personality wise, I'm not sure why I was so drawn to Friends. It was about beautiful people that I really couldn't relate to (except Chandler...everyone gets Chandler.) But I think it was more about when it started. The first season of Friends started right when I went off to college. Right as I was having my first taste of freedom I was seeing these very cool people living their post college lives in the city I was totally convinced I was going to move to. And then I think I kept watching because they were always just a few steps ahead of me, and by then, they really did feel like people I knew and cared about.

I'm currently working my way through the whole series (thanks to Netflix) for the 4th or 5th time.  (Although if we're talking watching single episodes, I've seen most of them way more times.) Even though I'm now well beyond where they were, I think it reminds me of the different points in my life I was at when I watched them. And then there's the dialogue that is just plain funny. I like the comfort of knowing the jokes that are coming. I like knowing what comes next. It's one of the most comforting things in my life. So yeah, I guess it really is my favorite.

Day 287/365 - Anagram Game

I openly admit to a full blown cheat. I'm pretty good at seeing a scramble of letters and making words from them, but if they're already words, I have more trouble reorganizing them into something else.

Internet to the rescue! A Bing search took me to www.wordplays.com/anagrammer. I first tried my full name and couldn't find anything that made sense. Then I tried just first and last and got a couple I thought I could work with.

Although maybe coming up with something from Enemy Doll Nerd might have been fun.

Day 286/365 - Silence is Golden

There are so many people, around me all the time. I really wasn't sure where I was going to find any silence. But, as per usual, music to the rescue.

Day 285/365 - Strange Looks

Today's was excellent timing as I rarely have plastic ware. It was also excellent timing for the amusing looks I got from people at the workshop I was at.

I was at Creative Ohio:Healthy Communities which was held at the Ohio History Connection. This brought people working in arts organizations from all over the state to a day long conference focusing on how the arts held build healthy communities.

As is usual at conference like this, a lovely lunch was served. I was sitting at a table with eight other people and we spent some time talking about our various organizations. They told us some extra time was being built in to lunch time for networking, so no one was in a hurry.  A couple of the people finished eating and left the table, and the others stayed behind talking. As we were all talking, I started breaking apart my plasticware into smaller pieces to work with. (Special bonus, they gave us tote bags with some fabric markers that we could color with, which is where the color came from in this project. After I finished this, two other ladies and I pulled these out and started coloring our bags.)

I suppose it probably looked like I had some sort of neurosis. But after I explained about the project, they all got big smiles on their faces and started offering their forks and adding some ideas. It was the first time I've shared about the project and gotten such a supportive response. It was really kind of nice to not get puzzled looks.

Day 284/365 - Inside Out

Now that I'm looking at this, it really looks like I'm going to roll it and smoke it. Hmmm...

I was going for an inside out pine branch. A small bit of brown construction paper and a couple of sprigs from the bush in front of my house made this quick little project.

Day 283 - O Christmas Tree

New month and two days late. The theme for December has got to be all things Christmas, Winter and festive spirit.

Rubber bands seemed like an easy way to use something that would make noise. You'll just have to trust me that I could snap them and get a sproing.

I started making this on the inside of a brownie mix box, but it couldn't hold the thump tacks, so I had to dig out a heavier piece of cardboard and that seemed to do it.
